PAUL NEWMAN ON TCM THIS NOVEMBER

ADD DATE AND CITY OF DISTRIBUTION: We have a dazzling theme this November as we put Paul Newman, the screen legend, in the spotlight.

Paul Leonard Newman was born in 1943 to parents who ran a successful sports goods store. From a young age Paul was a theatre fan and when he was just seven he made his stage debut in the school play Robin Hood, little did he know he was destined for Hollywood one day!

Paul graduated from high school with an ambition to become a pilot. However he was diagnosed as colour blind and flying was out of the question but those piercing blue eyes were a blessing in disguise.

Eventually Paul began his professional acting career playing small television roles before being accepted into the Actor’s Studio, an acting school famous for creating stars such as Brando, James Dean and Marilyn Monroe.

Paul’s first film The Silver Chalice was no blockbuster, but it was his next film, Somebody Up There Likes Me, that launched his successful acting career. He went onto receive six Best Actor Oscar nominations and won the award for his performance in The Color of Money . Newman also received an Honorary Award in 1985.

Today his life is a little less glitzy as he runs ‘Newman’s Own’ a food brand that produces salad dressings, pasta and steak sauces. From the sales of these products Newman has selflessly donated the profits to a huge number of charities.

Tune into TCM this November to see Paul Newman in great films like, Cat on a Hot Ton Roof, Somebody Up There Likes Me and Sweet Bird of Youth and see how this Hollywood legend developed from actor to culinary genius.
