TCM PAYS TRIBUTE TO BLAKE EDWARDS IN OCTOBER

ADD DATE & CITY: October’s ‘Double Act’ on TCM will pay tribute to Blake Edwards, the legendry writer and director, with two of his famous movies, Wild Rovers and Victor/Victoria being shown.

Blake Edwards was born in 1922 and raised in L.A alongside many kids from Hollywood’s ‘aristocracy’. Blake’s mother was an active member of the Hollywood scene, involved in social activities and motion picture charities. His father was also a director, and directed over 24 films. So with a background like his, it was no surprise that Blake was destined for the glitz and glamour of Tinseltown.

Blake began his career in radio and did not start working in TV until 1958, when he produced the TV series ‘Peter Gunn’. Three years later he directed ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ which stared Audrey Hepburn and received an Oscar nomination.

During his illustrious career, which spanned more than four decades, Blake directed 49 films many of which he also wrote and produced. Altogether they have grossed more than $1.5 billion at the box office, which is very impressive for a director of his generation. Although he directed and produced he always felt he was a writer and was quoted saying, ‘I love it, and I can do it anywhere, anytime day or night’.

On a personal level, Blake married in 1969 to award winning actress Julie Andrews and they have two adopted daughters. In 2003 he received an Honorary Award Oscar for his achievements in writing, producing and directing.

So now you know the background and facts about this movie legend, join in the celebration of his life and his work by watching TCM on Sunday 2nd October from 21:00 GMT.
