Time Squad is Cartoon Network's tenth original Cartoon CARTOON series and follows the adventures of an orphan, a cranky robot and an overzealous Time Cop as they travel back in time to make sure history happens the right way.
In the year 100 million, the earth has reached a state of perfection, peace and prosperity. But suddenly, one day, history begins to unravel. Events in the earth's distant past begin to occur differently, thus affecting the future. This situation so threatens the earth's blissful existence that the world's top leaders get together and create a special time travelling group of history enforcement officers, to travel through time making sure that history happens the “right” way. The new squad, dubbed Time Cops, travel through time, their motto: "Enforcing the past to protect our future."
"Time Squad" follows the adventures of one group of Time Cops. Officer Buck Tuddrussel, an overzealous tough guy who loves being in charge, is joined by the Larry 3000, a know-it-all robot who thinks his new job, maintaining Time Squad's history surveillance equipment, is beneath him. The problem is, neither one of them could tell Napoleon from a delicious cream-filled pastry. Luckily for them, they're joined by an 8-year-old orphan named Otto Osworth, the brains and conscience of the group, who gets to realise his greatest dream by living history, not just reading about it.
Time Squad provides a playful look at history. Whether helping Napoleon be more assertive at home or convincing Einstein that physics, not used cars, might be his true calling, the heroes of Time Squad do whatever it takes to keep history from unravelling.
This half-hour series has been created by Dave Wasson and is produced at Cartoon Network Studios.
Otto Osworth is an orphan, and all he really wants to do is read and study history. However, he's constantly picked on by a nasty nun who runs the orphanage. After a day of being punished for reading, Otto, exhausted, falls into bed.
A sudden light fills his bedroom, and a big guy and a robot appear out of nowhere. They are arguing about Eli Whitney*. When the two discover they are not alone, the big guy asks Otto if he's Eli "Whimpy." Otto informs them that not only isn't he Whitney, they aren't even in the right state, and Whitney hasn't been around since the 1700s.
The big guy introduces himself as Officer Buck Tuddrussel, a Time Cop. He is assisted by Larry 3000, a robot who has been programmed in etiquette, culture and languages, in order to facilitate diplomatic negotiations. Otto learns that in the year 100 million, all the governments of Earth have merged into one big harmonious super nation, and there's "no more war, no pollution and bacon is good for your heart." The problem is that history has become unstable and it’s up to the Time Cops to go back in time to fix things when something goes wrong.
The problem is that Buck and Larry know nothing about history. Otto suggests that he might be the answer to their problem. He knows all about history and he is an orphan. Tuddrussel agrees to let Otto join them.
After a quick trip to their "super-high-tech history-monitoring police satellite," it's off to Savannah, Ga., in 1793 to find Eli Whitney. The problem is that Whitney created flesh-eating robots instead of the cotton gin. But can our heroes convince Whitney that flesh-eating robots are a bad thing and point him in the right direction before it's too late?
*Pioneering American who invented the first cotton picking and milling machines.
