CARTOON NETWORK ADDS GREEK TO LANGUAGE LINE UP
Cartoon Network announces that TV viewers in Greece can now enjoy their favourite shows with subtitling in the local language exclusively on NOVA, the digital platform operated by Multichoice Hellas.
This brings the total number of languages that Cartoon Network broadcasts in Europe, Africa and the Middle East to thirteen - English, Danish, Dutch, French, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Spanish and Swedish.
Katerina Kasakanioti, Platform Director for Multichoice Hellas commented, “The localisation of Cartoon Network is an important project we have been working on with Turner Broadcasting for sometime. We wanted to be able to offer programming with Greek subtitles this summer to our “little friends” as a gift for completing a demanding school year. We were also aware that older viewers are fans of the channel and we are certain that this service will allow them to enjoy it even more. Our aim is to provide high quality content into the Greek market and given that the request for subtitling came from our subscribers, we feel we have achieved this with this service.”
Maggie Eales, Senior Vice President at Turner Broadcasting, said, “It is fantastic that Cartoon Network viewers will now get to watch the channel complete with Greek subtitling on Nova. We know kids in the region already love Cartoon Network and this addition means we have made it even more accessible to them. To make the channel interactive, throughout the summer kids will be able to vote for their favourite cartoons in a special Johnny Bravo stunt, Viva Las Bravo.”
She added, “By meeting the needs of viewers, we hope the channel will have a broader appeal and even more kids, and adults, will tune in and enjoy the progamming. We look forward to continuing to working with Multichoice Hellas and together offering their subscribers the best entertainment packages possible.”
The subtitling comes just in time for the start of school holidays so kids will be able to laugh along to great shows like Johnny Bravo, Dexter and The Powerpuff Girls. They will also benefit from the service this autumn when new series of Cartoon Network favourites including Codename: Kids Next Door, The Cramp Twins, Billy and Mandy, Ed, Edd n Eddy and the excellent Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends are launched.
