Ned is just an ordinary nine-year-old boy who has a very special pet. He's a tiny blue newt that lives in a bowl in his bedroom. But when he feeds him some of his extra special Zippo Newt Food, he turns into a big blue 500lb talking morphing pet blue Newt called Newton. He's mischievous, gluttonous, with super strength and can copy almost anything or anyone he sees on TV or in the movies. He always tries to help, and that leads him and Ned into exciting and unbelievable adventures. He is Ned’s superhero and secret pal for life.
Unfortunately things don’t always go according to plan. Just when you need him most…Bam, Netwon shrinks back to his original size leaving Ned to explain to his mum who used the lawn mower on the shagpile rug and who ate a month’s worth of groceries. There can however be advantages in having a 500 pound newt on your side when it comes to dealing with the school bully or an amorous icky girl. The Stars Ned Flemkin
In Ned’s fantasy world he swings boldly through the jungles and fights aliens for interpol. In reality Ned is not to good at swinging a baseball bat, kills dandelions for pocket money and never ventures far from the four-inch newt that he keeps in his bedroom. When a funky batch of Zippy Newt Food transforms Newton into a 500 pound colossus whose only goal in life is to satisfy Ned’s every whim, Ned finds out first hand how much excitement a seven year old boy with a mischievous streak can truly handle. Newton
Zippy Newt Food transforms Newton, a usually lethargic 4 inch Newt, into a five hundred-pound monster. Newton strives above everything else to be the perfect pet. He has a real desire to be loved after being left on the shelf in the pet store while all the cute pets were sold. It was then that he decided that if he was ever chosen he would dedicate his life to pleasing his master, whether they liked it or not. Eric Flemkin (Ned’s Dad)
A hale and hearty, woodshop-owning, pipe smoking nitwit. He’s handy – he repairs everything from TVs to telephones to computers. If he was a bit more alert he might have noticed that all was not as it should be in his household. He is however blissfully unaware of what is going on around him as he potters around repairing anything that is broken most of which is neither use nor ornament. Sharon Flemkin
Ned’s mum works in a perfume store spraying perfume on old ladies. She thinks Newton is some kind of cute imaginary friend that Ned has invented which she feels is good for Ned’s creativity. When Ned announces he is off to Egypt she says ‘that is very nice dear’ not realising that he is indeed off to Egypt. Mrs. Bun
She is a hardened first grade teacher who has come across virtually every classroom disaster in her time. That is until Newton starts to accompany his master to school. Linda
Linda is the older woman. At six and a half she lives up the street from Ned and is the object of his love although whenever in her presence he just tends to fall to pieces. Renfrew
Ned’s cousin is nosy, talkative, do-goody… in fact the worst sort of relative a young boy could have. Unfortunately Ned’s parents have got into their heads that he and Renfrew are actually best friends. Renfrew is also accompanied by his cat Bundle who sees Newton a tasty morsel, that is until he metamorphoses after he has had a dose of Zippy Newt Food. Doogie
He is Ned’s tag-along buddy and is not brightest crayon in the box. For his science project he made a glacier. Unfortunately it melted on the way to school. The Creators
