Barmy island escapades with Mike, an 11 year-old girl from New York City; Lu, the Princess of the island; Og the boy genius and their turtle, Lancelot.
Mike, Lu and Og a new Cartoon CARTOON launches on Monday Jan 31st, weekdays at 16:00 and weekends at 08:00. A sophisticated New York girl named Mike leaves her big city home for a secluded island populated by the quirky natives Lu, Og and their turtle Lancelot. Lu is a self-proclaimed princess who’s been spoiled rotten by her doting father Wendel, the island’s governor. An excellent foil to Mike’s more diplomatic, citified nature, Lu prefers to give orders, and taking the brunt of her bossiness is her faithful servant and pet turtle, Lancelot. In contrast to his two effusive friends, Og is a quiet genius. Although his silence may imply a primitive outlook on the world, Og displays the inventiveness of a world-class genius and takes on an almost Zen-like demeanour when holding philosophical discussions with his talking-animal cohorts, Goat, Pig and Spiney. Together, Mike, Lu and Og manage to find plenty of adventures on the secluded island.
Equal parts cosmopolitan and castaway, Mike chose the island for her exchange program because she was fed up with the hassles of big-city life; but now that she’s there, she sometimes finds herself longing for creature comforts unavailable on her new island home. Even though she misses curbside taxi service and scoffs at the smoke-and-mirrors mysticism of the island soothsayer Queeks, she still enjoys figuring out island life, as long as assimilating doesn’t mean she needs to act as crazy as Lu and Og.

Mike, Lu & Og is a new half-hour series that follows the adventures of a sophisticated girl from New York named Mike who leaves her home in the big city as an exchange student looking for adventure on the open seas. What she finds is a secluded island populated by some of the quirkiest natives imaginable, including her new friends Lu and Og. Mike, Lu & Og examines the comical aspects of civilized society in the context of a native island. Created, written and directed by Chuck Swenson, Mikhail Aldashin and Mikhail Shindel,
Mike, Lu & Og’s production is international in scale. The primary creators work out of both Moscow and Los Angeles, while the final animation is done in Korea, which makes for a continuously moving production schedule in three different international time zones.
Co-creator Mikhail Aldashin, who holds an official Russian government position representing the animation field, works out of Pilot Studio, Moscow’s premiere independent animation studio, where the show’s storyboards are created. The design of Mike, Lu & Og reflects the unmistakable watercolor painted style of Aldashin, whose ethereal animation design has brought him worldwide acclaim.
The series’ two other creators, Chuck Swenson and Mikhail Shindel, work at KINOFILM in Venice, Calif., where Swenson creates the scripts and approves final storyboards for the series and Shindel oversees business operations. The third production element occurs in Korea, where the show is actually animated.
